The Celebration

More Than a Festival — A Meeting Point for Africa

Held annually in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, the Calabar Carnival is one of Africa's most important tourism and entertainment events. Established in 2004, it has grown into a multi-day cultural ecosystem drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors along a 12-kilometre parade route.

It is an international meeting point showcasing Africa's cultural heritage, creative industries, tourism potential and social diversity — bringing together renowned carnival bands such as Passion 4, Masta Blasta, Seagull and Bayside in a professionalised, judged competition.

Fly into Margaret Ekpo International Airport (CBQ) in Calabar. Frequent domestic flights connect from Abuja (~1h–1h10) and Lagos (~1h5) on carriers such as Air Peace, Ibom Air and Aero Contractors.

  • Nigeria requires a visa for most travelers — plan ahead.
